Misc Studies

Still trying to get back into the digital art thang... drew some more studies and even a still life. Also been working on some perspective, but I don't think a bunch of lines and shapes would be very interesting for anyone to see (or me to photograph). Uni starts up tomorrow so we'll see how that effects what I end up drawing.

Trying to get back into digital art...

I also tried to do an environment study that turned out so badly I don't even want to post it. Are there any tutorials on using custom brushes EFFECTIVELY? I just seem to make a big mess.

The Big Traditional Work Update Part 2!

So once again, I've been mostly away from home so I've not had a chance to do much digital artwork. I've done a fair bit traditionally though. Finally finished working through Figure Drawing for All It's Worth for the first time, and I've got to say, it's made a HUGE difference to my figure drawing, both from life and imagination. I wish there was a book like it for drawing environments, I really do. I'm back home now so I'll probably do alot of digital work to warm me up for uni next week.

The Big Traditional Work Update

I've not posted in ages, because I've been out and about and mostly working with physical media when I do get a chance to draw. I've mostly been trying to quickly draw gestures of people I see out and about and studying Andrew Loomis' "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth". Gotta drill proportions into my head one way or another I suppose. I also draw a certain someone with a knack for falling asleep in the nude when I'm around, but I don't think I'm allowed to post those. :( I don't have a scanner, so camera shots it'll have to be.

London is Burning

Is it bad that the main thing I think when I see images of the riots going on in London is "oh man I gotta draw me some of that"?

Studies and Opencanvas

So I've been reading "On Drawing Trees and Nature." by James Duffield Harding since I finished the mammoth Dance With Dragons (good book, should only take ten years to find out what happens next). And basically, the first four chapters are a "why don't you study form some more huh" guilt trip. So I caved and started looking for nice sculptures to study. This is the first I've done, the Apollo Belvedere.
And a random hand study I did the other day...
And a quick doodle I did to test out how OpenCanvas works. I know, I know. I didn't even use reference, I'm a bad person.

Progress Chart

I always find these fascinating to look at so I went ahead and made my own. If you want to make your own, the template is just a search away on DeviantArt. The results are really interesting and motivating to see.

New Background and Some Wip

"Right, I need to get some drawing done and update the blog for once". I then doodled a silly cartoon self portrait and spent half an hour trying to make it work as a background on here. That counts, right? Most of the decent stuff I have right now is very wip, because I start them and then I get distracted with other ideas. So I'll just post the only thing I have even mildly worth posting yet.

This is a wip, copied from issue 10 of X23 (Female Wolverine, pretty much). I thought I'd try to learn from some artwork I admire. The original image was by Sana Takeda.

Mother of Dragons Final (I think)

This is a personal piece based on Daenerys Targaryen from the Song of Ice and Fire books, who *spoilers* emerges from a funeral pyre unburnt with three baby dragons.

Daenerys Targaryen - Mother of Dragons wip (warning, boobies)

This is my progress so far on a project I've set myself, art based on the character from the Song of Ice and Fire books. I've been working on it for a few days now and I really like where it's going. :)
